Cleudis Robbins

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Cleudis "Pete" Robbins, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, in North Richland Hills.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday in Lucas Funeral Chapel, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst. Interment: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Cleudis was born Oct. 25, 1934, in Colmar, Ky., to Guynith Denny Hawkins and Clendell Robbins. He was the grandson of Andrew and Lula Belle Brasher Denny and Chester and Margaret Hurst Robbins. His siblings were Albert Hawkins, William Hawkins, Bonnie Branham, Jake Hawkins, Fay Hunley, Charlotte Cobb, Marie Robbins, Leroy Robbins, Beatrice Cook, Myrtle Britton and Elwood Robbins.

Cleudis was married to, first, Mary Carol Maddox of Indianapolis, Ind., and, second, Mary Green of Albany, Texas. He graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor of science in education and master of arts in human resources from Pepperdine University. He was a captain in the United States Air Force, retiring after 25 years, the sports editor for the Clovis News Journal, a salesman for the Vernon Co. and a recently published author of "The Burying Man." He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans and Kiwanis Club and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He loved golf, storytelling, playing the guitar, fishing, hiking the mountains of Appalachia and spending time with his family. He was a beloved and cherished husband, father and grandfather who is dearly missed.

He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Marie; and great-granddaughter, Gracie Belle Ray.

Survivors: His wife, Mary; his children, Angela Spanos (Evans), Janene Nielsen (Robert), John Robbins (Gina), and Peter Robbins (Collette); his grandchildren, Michael Spanos, Tyler Spanos, Andrew Spanos, Ryan Nielsen, Emily Nielsen Ray, Carol Nielsen Parson, Claire Nielsen, Mary Robbins, John Robbins, Hannah Robbins, Megan Meadows Hunter and Everson Rode; and great-grandchildren, James, Harrison and Bennett Ray, Jane, Oliver and Finn Parson, and Audrey and Eli Nielsen.
