Cora Veneta Mclaughlin

Cora McLaughlin, 92, passed away on July 30, 2018.

Funeral Service: 3:00 Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst.

Cora grew up and attended school in Wright county. After graduation from Hartville High School, she moved to Exeter, CA to be near her sisters, where she became actively involved in the local church and accepted Christ. She put her trust in the Lord in all things and her faith never wavered.

While in Exeter, she met and married Gerald “Jerry” McLaughlin in 1951 and to this union, one child, Vickie, was born. The McLaughlin family moved to Mansfield, MO in 1963 so that Cora could care for her ailing parents. She worked as a grocery store clerk at Town and Country Supermarket for over 35 years and made many friends. Cora faithfully attended Mansfield Assembly of God and was honored as Mother of the Year for her service as the “baby whisperer”.

Upon retirement, Cora and Jerry moved back to Bakersfield, CA to help take care of Jerry’s elderly mother. In 2002 they moved to Shawnee, OK to live in the Potawatomi Elder center where they lived until Jerry passed away in 2008. Cora then moved to Texas to be near her recently widowed daughter and 2 young grandsons. She attended Calvary Church in Irving with her family.

Cora spent her life helping and serving others, showing the love of Christ in everything she did, never complaining. When asked how she was doing, even during tough times, her response was always, “I’m fine” because she knew God was in control. Cora was a good and faithful servant and she will be missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald McLaughlin; son-in-law, Gee Brown; brothers, Paul McIntosh, and Omer McIntosh; sister, Pauline Loftin, Velma Smith, and Arvena Reed;

Cora is survived by her daughter, Vickie Brown; grandsons, Jacob Brown and Zachary Brown; brother, Wilber McIntosh; and many other extended family and friends.
