Dalton L. Gilbert, 91, of Crowley, Texas passed away on May 12, 2022. Dalton was born to Freeman and Nettie Gilbert on January 1, 1931. He graduated from Keller High School in 1949. He married Berta in 1967, and they lived together for many years in both Hurst and later Crowley, Texas. He is survived by his children Darrell Gilbert and his wife Vickey of Granbury and Dana Hampton of Dallas. He was a beloved and admired grandfather to, Jennifer Kidd of Joshua, Texas, Danielle Terry of Ft. Worth, Texas, Christian Hampton of Dallas, Texas and great grandchildren Levi Garrett, Katelin Kidd and Cole Kidd.
An avid storyteller, one of Dalton’s greatest joys was regaling his family and friends with amazing stories. He was a wonderful, loyal, and loving friend to many. Dalton went to the police academy at Northwestern University and became a law enforcement officer in Hurst, Texas in 1955. He served the citizens of Hurst for 34 years as a Major and retired in 1989. After one year of retirement and unsuccessful fishing, he went back to work for Tarrant County as a Special Deputy. A long-time respected polygraph examiner, he continued to work part time well into his 80’s.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Berta Gilbert, grandson Jay Gilbert, and brothers Dave Gilbert, Bob Gilbert and John Gilbert.
Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm, Monday, May 16, 2022 at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller, Texas. Funeral Service will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Lucas Funeral Home, Keller. Interment will follow the service at Bourland Cemetery in Keller.
