James Daniel Padgett, Dan, 84, passed away peacefully in his Bedford home on Saturday, December 10th. He was predeceased by his parents, Larkin and Mary Lou Padgett; and his sisters Frances Tremaine and Thelma Landers.
Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Friday, December 16th at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM at Lucas funeral Home with Gary Allen, a lifelong friend of the family, officiating. Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery in Arlington, Texas.
Dan was born in Heflin, Louisiana to James Larkin and Mary Lou Padgett on July 4, 1932. He moved to Grand Prairie at the age of 10 where he continued his school years and graduated from Grand Prairie High School. He married Virgie Mae, his wife of 61 years, on March 16, 1955. He served in the Naval Reserves for 9 years and worked at Burroughs Corporation for 37 years servicing banking machines all over North Texas. He was involved in church and community service. He would go once a month to a local nursing home to play bingo and visit with the residents. He was very involved in the Fort Worth Historical Society and an original member of the Legends of the West, an authentic western gun fighting group who regularly performed in the Stock Yards area.
Dan is survived by his wife, Virgie Mae Padgett; his three children, Vickie Mihills and husband Glenn, Randy Padgett, Danna Tittle and husband John; his eight grandchildren, Ty Greene and wife Carli, Jennifer Stickles and husband Jim, Jevin Greene, Amy Dollar and husband Ryan, Megan Mihills, Alaina Padgett and Louie, Emily Padgett and Rob, Mitchell Padgett; fourteen great-grandchildren, Emma, Wyatt, Colton, Lane, Ally, Mattie, Garrett, Connor, Callie, Rylan, Ella, Landry, Olivia, and Louie.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Mihills, John Tittle, Mike Tremaine, Ty Greene, Jevin Greene, and Mitchell Padgett.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
