Daniel (Dan) James Dwyer, age 63; Keller, TX.
Dan, a former Police Officer in Lincoln, NE and later a Special Agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), was long known for being the “go-to” guy, problem solver, lawn maintenance extraordinaire, handyman, unofficial cat lover, dedicated public servant, and avid dessert connoisseur.
He was born on the Bitburg Air Force Base in Germany in March 1959 as the second of Edward and Ardyce’s two children. After moving around the United States, Dan graduated from East High School in Lincoln, NE in 1977. He then went on to obtain his B.S. in Criminal Justice (Minors in English and Psychology) from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1981. He began his work as a police officer for the Lincoln Police Department from January 1982 to October 1987. During those six years, Dan worked on patrol, SWAT, and as a FTO. Dan and Denise married on June 4, 1988 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Omaha, NE surrounded by family and friends after meeting at a scuba diving class. Shortly thereafter they moved to Littleton, CO where Dan began working with the Denver Field Division of ATF and had two children, Katie (born August 1991) and Colin (born November 1993).
Dan’s 30 years with ATF took him and his family around the nation from Colorado to Virginia to finally Texas in the Dallas Field Division where he would retire in 2016 after being a part of many high-profile national investigations. Dan then went on to serve in executive private security at the AT&T headquarters in Dallas until earlier this year. In March 2022, Dan was diagnosed with cancer. He had a very strong and valiant six-month fight, never once complaining. His family was blessed with spending as much time with him as they were allowed. Dan was a wonderful and loving father and husband. He taught his kids everything from how to dribble a basketball, hold a gun, change a tire, to how to use a table saw. He was truly a man of many talents.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Ardyce A. (Hulsebusch) Dwyer; grandparents: William and Elsie Huslebusch and Edward and Loretta Dwyer; father-in-law, Edward DeJoy; mother-in-law, Gloria DeJoy; sisters-in-law: Mary Beth DeJoy and Dee DeJoy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Denise Dwyer; daughter, Katie Kincaid (Josh); son, Colin Dwyer; father, Edward Dwyer; sister, Kathy Volkman (Dave); nieces: Sarah Pelster (Dave) and Amy Volkman; nephews: Matt Volkman, Josh Volkman (Kate), Ben Volkman, and Mike Volkman; many loving relatives, friends, and neighbors.
