David Wilson Baker, 79, of Bedford, Texas, passed away on May 16, 2023.
David was born on February 11, 1944, the eldest of five children, to Maynard E. and Opal (Pritchett) Baker in Lauratown, Arkansas. After his secondary school education during the family’s deployment in Taiwan, he returned to Texas for his senior year and graduation from Irving High School.
David joined the Dallas Fire Department on April 1, 1964 then served in the United States Army stationed at Fort Greeley, Alaska, as a firefighter. After his honorable discharge he returned to the DFD to complete his 35 year career ending with his retirement as a Deputy Chief.
In 1962, David met Sharon Ann Doyle at Irving High School. They were married July 17, 1965 and went on to have two children, Aidan and Kristin.
In 1999, David retired and spent his time golfing and watching his grandchildren in their various sports and school activities.
David was predeceased by his parents, Maynard and Opal Baker, his brother James Baker, and sisters Pearlene Long and Erlene Reibly. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon (Doyle) Baker, and their children Aidan Doyle Baker (Kristi) and Kristin Lee-Ann Byrum (Chris); his grandchildren Zachary David Baker Hicks, Allyson Doyle Baker, Bryan Austin Baker (Allison) and Reagan Kathleen Hicks. He is also survived by his brother Darrell Paul Baker (Carol), sister-in-law Lynda Garner (Sid), as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on May 26th; 11:00am at Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to the Shady Oaks Baptist Church building and maintenance fund or any organization you feel strongly about.
