David Ash Brown, 82, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017.
Funeral: 2:00 PM Friday at The Mount Church in Keller. Interment will follow at Bourland Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8:00 PM Thursday evening at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller.
David was born September 20, 1934 in Fort Worth and educated in Fort Worth Public Schools. Graduated from Texas Christian University 1957 with bachelor of arts degree in government and journalism. Learned to fly through U.S. Air Force cadet program while attending college. Graduated from University of Texas in 1961 with master's degree in communications.
Began newspaper career as a general assignments reporter on the Wichita Falls Record-News in 1955. In 1956 became a general assignments reporter on the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and became aviation editor in 1957. Won a number of local and state reporting awards while working on the Star-Telegram 1957-61.
Joined Aviation Week and Space Technology in 1961 as a desk editor in New York. Named Business Flying Editor in 1963 and became Washington Bureau Chief in 1970. Was appointed as a Senior Editor in 1973 and named London Bureau Chief in 1976.
Married in 1963 to the Former Nina Jane Austin. Two children, Samuel and Sarah.
Hobbies include history, antique firearms and coin collecting. Member of the National Press Club, National Rifle Association, Potomac Arms Collectors Association and the Chili Appreciation Society International.
Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Nina Brown; son, Samuel Brown and wife Korrie; daughter, Sarah Roschen and husband Robert; and grandsons, London and Fletcher Brown.
