David Joseph Crome, 55, of Grapevine, Texas, passed away on September 26th, 2022, after a five month battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme (Brain Cancer).
Dave was born on December 8th, 1966, to Richard and Sara Crome in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from New Trier Township High School in 1985, he went on to study Communications in Radio-Television at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale and graduated in 1989.
During college, he landed his first job as a Sports Reporter for WCIL Radio, kicking off his 24 year career in Sports Broadcasting. Two years later he became a Sports Anchor/Reporter for WSIL-TV in Carterville, Illinois. He eventually moved to El Paso, Texas, where he was the Sports Director at KDBC-TV and later moved to KSHB-TV in Kansas city continuing to Report and Achor and on to KDAF-TV in Dallas, Texas, where he earned Emmy’s and an Edward R. Murrow award. In 2011, he became the Broadcast Media Relations Manager for Texas Motor Speedway while also joining CBS Radio and contributed to sports updates on 105.3, The Fan and KRLD-AM. He continued his love of media while pairing it with his ultimate purpose of sharing his faith in Jesus, during his final role as VP of Marketing & Communications at KiDs Beach Club. This after school Bible club, focused on sharing character education and produced network quality programs that won Telly awards during covid, enabling children world-wide, on Christian TV networks, to hear the gospel message.
In 1985, Dave met Janet (Harrison) Crome, and they wed in 1990, going on to have four children, Nicholas, Christine, Connor, and Alexa.
During the time of his illness and treatment, Dave spent his time with his family swimming, watching 70’s television and baseball games, listening to sports radio and making people laugh.
Dave was predeceased by his father, Richard Crome; and his brother, Christopher Crome. He is survived by his wife, Janet; his mother, Sara Crome; his uncle and aunt, Joseph and Constance Vitale; his cousins Lisa (Vitale) Mueller and Joseph Vitale; and his children Nicholas (Jessica)
