David Asa Sanders was born on September 11, 1959 to parents Elbert Asa and Betty Carolyn Sanders in Fort Worth, Texas. He passed away on December 21, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Sally.
David is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Sanders; son's Asa Sanders and wife, Melanie; Austin Sanders, Kyle Sanders, Alec Sanders, and Caleb Sanders; granddaughter, Kaitlin Sanders; mother, Betty Jarvis-Sanders; sister, Anita Sanders-McWilliams, stepsister JoAnn Cooper; stepbrother, Billy McKinnell; and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family and friends who dearly loved him.
Some fond memories the family has of David is his American spirit and patriotic views. He strongly supported the military and was extremely proud of his son Asa for serving in the Army.
David was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys no matter what their seasons held.
He loved watching television and movies. His favorites included westerns – especially those starring John Wayne, all variations of Star Trek, Star Wars, any action-packed movies and at Christmas time, the 1951 version of “A Christmas Carol” starring Alastair Sim.
David loved his food and loved to eat. He had a hearty appetite when it came to bacon, fried catfish, Mexican lasagna, lemons (lots and lots of lemons) and German pancakes.
Throughout the years he held many jobs. Those that come to mind are the gas station in Kennedale, Snapper, pest control, The Home Depot, and dabbling in entrepreneurship. His favorite was driving a truck because he felt closest to his pop when he was on the road.
David and Libby were married nearly thirty-one years and he affectionally called her Kathleen.
David was extremely proud of each of his five boys. Asa, the oldest, personified David’s patriotism by serving in the Army and protecting the freedoms America has. David saw the intelligence and reasoning abilities his second son Austin has and encouraged him to build upon those qualities. When David drove the truck, he took Kyle, his third, with him for a summer and very much enjoyed bonding with Kyle while traveling across America and the conversations they had. David was impressed and proud of his fourth son Alec as Alec pursued his culinary degree. David beamed with pride knowing that Alec accomplished this with no vehicle and was the youngest in his class. It delighted David that his fifth son Caleb decided to attend Harding University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems and could not wait to see where that would lead him in life. David so loved his daughter-in-law Melanie and thought the world of her. His granddaughter Kaitlin was wrapped around his little finger and he absolutely loved that she called him Handsome.
