September 5, 1916 — May 20, 2012

KELLER -- David M. Willett, 95, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 20, 2012, in a local health care facility.        Graveside Service and Burial: Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 23.        Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lucas Funeral Home, 137 E. Hill Street, Keller.        David was born September 5, 1916, in Sunset. He graduated from Bowie High School in 1935. During his high school days, he participated in a number of sports and was president of his senior class.        David worked at Carswell Air Force Base building airplanes during the war before moving back to Bowie to work and eventually own his own variety store. He moved the family to Seymour in 1948 where he and his first wife, Martha, owned Willett's Variety Store until they retired and moved to Keller in 1977.        David was a very caring and loving husband to his wife, and caring and loving dad to his daughters and a wonderful "Papaw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a longtime member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Keller. One of his greatest joys was the time spent in preparation for lessons he taught to the members of the Old Codgers' Sunday School Class.        David was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Martha Willett, and by his parents, brothers, and sisters.        Survivors: Wife of 11 years, Hazel Willett; daughters, Sylvia Keeling and her husband, Joe, and Sue Boothe and her husband, Jim; grandchildren, Liz Price and her husband, Michael, Matt Mooney and his wife, Irma, and D'Ann Burrow and her husband, Steve; great-grandchildren, Andy, Danny, and Matt Cahalan, Clay and Katie Mooney, and Madeline and Nicholas Burrow; sister-in-law, Rose Carter; brother-in-law, Paul Gray; Hazel's children, Betty Beckman and her husband, Kevin, Mike Cleveland and Judy Tscham; members of the Old Codgars' Sunday School Class; and other extended family and friends.        Special thanks to Keller Oaks Healthcare Center and Odyssey Hospice for their incredible support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of David Willett to Keller Oaks Healthcare Center, 8703 Davis Blvd, Keller, Texas 76248.
