David Eugene Woods, of Haltom City, TX passed away at home from cancer on January 9, 2021.
David was born to Frances Eldon Woods and Idell Huddleston Woods on January 20, 1946 in Pueblo, Colorado. He graduated from Keyes, Oklahoma High School in 1964. He received a Business Degree from Panhandle State University in 1972, and a Diploma in Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1979. He married Sheryl Wilson din 1967. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years, Sheryl Woods, daughter Kimberly Formby and son in law Tim Formby , daughter Amber Woods, grandchildren Nathan Formby and Katerina Formby, and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Linda Kinzer, mother, Idell Huddleston Woods, father, Frances “Woody” Woods, and brother, Doug Woods.
David was a Sergeant in the Air Force and was proud to have served his country as a medic during the Vietnam era. He was honored to serve as pastor of the first Baptist Church of Gotebo, OK from 1978-1984. He then worked as a custodian for 20 years in Birdville ISD, retiring in 2008. David was passionate and active in encouraging others. With his winning smile and caring heart, people felt better when David was around.
A memorial service for family only is scheduled for Thursday January 14th at 11:00 at Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst. The service will be live streamed and the family invites friends to attend the graveside service at Smithfield Cemetery at 12:30.
In honor of his memory, the family requests that donations be made to N.E.E.D. (Northeast Emergency Distribution), or to the American Diabetes Association.
