Chip was born January 29, 1971, in Dallas, TX. He
passed away and went to be with the Lord on July 24,
2019.
Chip grew up in Dallas, TX, attending public school
in Lake Highlands and Highland Park. His mother
Karen was a serious English Teacher, so Chip became
adept at defending her honor while balancing the
delicate dilemma associated with being a teacher’s
son in teen society.
He met the love of his life, Tonya Sears in high
school when both of them were changing classes
between B & C hall during his junior year. It was
love at first sight!
The love blossomed, resulting in these lovebirds
moving into a 674 square foot apartment together
while they both attended college in Denton at North
Texas State University with the joint promise they
would not marry until they both graduated.
Chip and Tonya both received their degrees in
December of 1996 and married in May of 1997.
Several months later Chip entered the professional
world of automobile sales and finance, where he
excelled in both. He started his automobile career at
Don Davis Toyota in Arlington, TX, eventually
changing employers and working for the Park Place
Dealerships for 15 years. The last few years, he has
spent pursuing different endeavors in the automotive
industry.
Chip was respected by his colleagues, his customers
and his employees who served along with him and
truly loved him. They knew he had their best interests
at heart.
Chip was known as a caring and sensitive man who
listened to his employees concerns. When visiting
with Chip you knew you were speaking with a
genuine soul. He was jovial and could lighten any
mood.
In 2007 the light of his life appeared when his
daughter Ashlyn was born creating the perfect
opportunity for Chip to bestow all of his natural
charm and humor as a father. He was a caring and
loving father. One of the moments Chip cherished
most was the opportunity to play the father character
to Ashlyn (Clara) in the Nutcracker, where he was
able to dance with her on stage!!
Chip Cottingame will be missed by many. He was a
father figure to his sister-in-law Tiffany, a dutiful son
to his mother Karen, a daddy to numerous four
legged fur babies, rescued by his wife Tonya, and a
warm, caring boss to countless lucky employees
whom he cared for like family.
His faithful and loving role as husband to Tonya and
father to Ashlyn leaves a lasting legacy to be
emulated.
Chip was proceeded in death by his father, Donald W.
Cottingame and his half sister, Kathryn Cottingame.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife
Tonya, his daughter Ashlyn, his mother Karen, his
half brothers, John and Kellie, and all the friends he
loved dearly.
His family and friends will miss him immensely.
