Donald Lee Davis was called to his eternal home on June 6, 2024. He was the third of four children to Richard Wells Davis and Edna Katherine Davis born in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1936. His family moved to Haltom City, and he started Birdville Elementary in 5th grade. He continued his school days in Haltom City and graduated from Birdville High School in 1955. He played basketball at TCU and Arlington State College, now known as UTA.
In 1955, he met the love of his life Peggy McLendon. They were married on May 4, 1956. They were blessed to just have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. While attending college, he began building houses in South Hurst, beginning a life-long career as a builder, real estate developer and real estate broker. He worked in the industry for over 50 years. His last development project was Hicks Airfield in North Fort Worth. He was still an active broker at the time of his passing. He served on the Hurst City Council in the 1960s and was elected the mayor of Hurst. He was awarded Man of the Year in Hurst, Texas and was a charter member of the Hurst Optimist Club. Don and Peggy were members of Hurst Christian Church for many years.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Howard Richard Davis, his sister Dorothy Davis Belz and his beloved oldest grandson Andrew Coleman Davis.
Don is survived by his wife Peggy, his son Kent and his wife Lisa, his daughter, Dana and her husband, Tom Wilson, his grandchildren Jacob Wells Davis, Abigail Faith Davis, Taylor Wilson Wright, Trevor Davis Wright and his wife Raelyn. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter Collins Camilla Wright.
Don is also survived by his brother Wallace Davis and his wife Glenda and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends from all over the country. His bigger-than-life personality and love of life will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Compass Center located at 4201 Pool Road, Grapevine, Texas 76051 on Friday, June 14, 2024. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the service starting at 1:00 pm. There will be a private burial for the family following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gary Coffman Guitar Scholarship Foundation in C/O Kent Davis at 9288 Huntington Square, NRH, TX 76182.
