Donald Hammer passed away August 16, 2022 after a short illness. He was born June 30, 1946 to Leota and Alden. As a young boy, he spent the school year in Wichita Kansas and his summers were spent on the family farm Mullenville, Kansas raising wheat. In 1964, he moved to California for a short period before joining the AirForce.
On July 10, 1966 he was set up on a blind date with Bonnie Amweg. They married a little over five months later on December 17, 1966 in Kenton Ohio. The Air Force took them to Okinawa. After leaving Okinawa, they settled in Columbus, Ohio where Don’s lifelong career in aviation began at Lane Aviation. In 1975 he was transferred to Texas where he was employed with Dresser Industries. Years later, he took a position in corporation aviation retiring from Mente Group in September of 2021…..or so he said.
His love for his work led him into private consultation until his death. In his career, Don traveled extensively. He had been on every continent except Antarctica. He met and worked with many people all over the world and had many stories to tell of his adventures.
