HALTOM CITY -- Don Hurst passed on Thursday afternoon in his home surrounded by loved ones. Funeral Service: 9:00 am Monday, July 28, 2014 at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst. Visitation: 2-4 pm Sunday, July 27 at the funeral home.
Known lovingly to friends and family as "Pop," he was an avid fisherman who passed his love of the sport on to his children and grandchildren.
He worked for SRO Asphalt from 1966 to 1995.
His great-great grandfather played such a role in founding the city of Hurst that the city carries his namesake to this day.
More than just a father or grandfather, Pop was the patriarch of a vast family, many of whom lived on his same street. He was known as one of the best storytellers(fact and fiction).
Pop was preceded in death by his father William Marcus Hurst, mother Vera, brother Arthur, sister Jeanette, and son-in-law Johnny Snow.
He is survived by Nina, his wife of 62 years; daughter Donna and husband David, daughter Carol Snow, daughter Linda and husband Gary; son Bill and wife Deanna; sisters, June Demases, Ann Howe and husband Ray and Linda Barnard; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Pop's advice and life lessons will live on through the many family members who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives. The world is a better place for Pop having lived in it.
