Donald Gene Mann was born October 25, 1938 in Mexia, Texas to Garland and Corieta Sadler Mann and was the second of four children. He grew up in Mexia and graduated from Mexia High School. On September 3, 1960, he married the love of his life, Merna Lynn Knight in Teague, Texas. He later completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from UT Arlington. Donald worked in the printing industry throughout his career. He loved to travel with his wife, as they enjoyed many adventures together, and he was active in his church until the time he passed away.
He was able to overcome several illnesses but never overcame the loss of his wife, Merna in 2018. Up until he passed, he spoke fondly of the love he had for her and how much he missed her, with tears in his eyes. He often stated that his family was what helped him during this difficult time.
Donald also loved and cherished his children and often teased, when he was in the hospital, that he did not want a pink casket. As the hospital visits became more frequent, he added that he did not want a pink shirt. He, finally, agreed that people could wear pink to his funeral. He had a wonderful sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Corieta Mann and his wife, Merna Mann.
Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Denise Hayes and husband, Craig; son, Kelly Mann and wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Hunter Wylie and wife, Lisa, Lauren Mann, and Zachary Mann; sisters, Betty Phillips and husband, Lindale and Pat Cherry and husband, Dwight; brother, Billy Mann and wife, Ginger; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to his home church, First United Methodist-Burleson. 590 NE McAlister Rd.; Burleson, Texas 76028.
The family would like to extend thanks to the caregivers that he has had the past few months at Huguley Hospital in Burleson; Town Hall Estates, Arlington and Medical City, Arlington. They have been true angels in this entire journey.
