Donald Gene Sheffield, 51, of Euless, Texas, peacefully passed away on the morning of Thursday, January 25, after a long and difficult battle with cancer.
Don was born on December 26, 1972, to Patsy McComis and Mike Sheffield, Sr., in the bustling city of Santiago, Chile. After Don graduated from Crockett High School (Austin) in 1991, he pursued a degree in
Applied Arts and Sciences at Southwest Texas State University, and eventually a Masters of Business
Administration at the University of Texas at Arlington.
After graduation, he worked in building inspection, and worked his way into the position of Assistant Director of Planning and Development for the City of Euless. He held over 25 State and National licenses in Building Inspection Technology, had professional training in Dispute Management, Employee Discharge and Documentation, and Land Use Law, had undergraduate training in various building trades, was one of the first 15 individuals in Texas to achieve Master Code Professional certification, and most recently, was a graduate from the HEB Leadership Academy. He also achieved his certification with the prestigious International Association of Certified Planners (IACP), which recognizes the academic qualifications, relevant work experience, and mastery of essential skills required to serve the community effectively as a planner. He was passionate about serving the citizens of Euless and loved what he did for a living.
In 2020, he married Jen. Don and Jen would both say they found their soulmates. Don was a powerful influence in the lives of the kids as a father, a mentor, and a friend.
Don had a great love of music, art, literature, and woodworking. You were most likely to find him with his nose in a classic book or covered in sawdust. Sometimes both. He loved playing bass guitar and the upright bass wherever he could and enjoyed concerts from heavy metal music to opera and everything in between. His creations can be found scattered throughout the house and continue to bring joy to everyone who received them.
Don was generous, honest and kind. He was loved by all who met him because of his giving nature, his infectious humor, and his willingness to help those in need.
Don is survived by his wife, Jen, children Eric and Elise, step-children Emmalynn Nall and her husband Christian, granddaughter Elliana (due in April), Jonathan, Abby, Nate, Libby, parents Patsy McComis and Mike Sheffield, Sr., brother Mike and sister-in-law Michele, half-sisters Stacy and Casey, nephew Ryan, niece Erin, and many friends. Services will be held at Fellowship of the Parks church, Bedford, on Monday, January 29, at 2:00 p.m. Flowers may be sent to the church or Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
