Donna Joy Anderton Ferguson Obituary
April 19, 1950 – February 27, 2023
Donna Joy Anderton Ferguson was born on April 19, 1950 at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Dallas, Texas to her parents Carl and Sarah Blanche Anderton now deceased. She passed from this life into heaven on the morning of February 27, 2023 in ICU care at Baylor, Scott and White Hospital in Dallas after a seven year extended illness. She was a wife, daughter, sister, loving mother with many extended family members. She was a Christian friend loved by many others.
She grew up in Dallas and was proud to be a Texan. She attended David G. Burnett Elementary, Edward H. Carey Middle School and Jefferson High School graduated class of 1968. After High School she relocated to Germany and later moved back to Texas for her career as a nurse. She told her Dad she wanted to be a nurse to take care of him and her family.
During her clinical training she assisted a patient named Robert Redford before he became an actor. She also attended SMU to further her nursing career.
Donna’s friend Shannon introduced her to Raymond (Ray) Ferguson who became the love of her life. They dated for a few years before becoming engaged to marry on Friday May 30th 1975 at the First Christian Church of Dallas. The couple celebrated their rehearsal dinner at the Dallas Spaghetti Warehouse.
After a couple of years they were blessed their daughter Sarah Lee at 11:59pm via emergency C-section and with her husband and her doctor, a personal friend, they announced Sarah’s birth the following day on the 24th so that her baby daughter could share the same day as her friend’s birthday.
Donna and Ray were avid Dallas Cowboy fans in the 60s & 70s. One evening after a Dallas Cowboys Sunday game they decided to raise their daughter in church so they pulled into a church parking lot and went inside the church. The church was holding a revival meeting with a preacher named R. W. Schambach. They walked down the church aisle to answer the alter call that evening and committed their lives to God and were happily never the same again.
Years later they adopted a baby boy they named Gabriel Matthew who was born on May 27th 1985. Donna committed to a therapy to breast feed Gabriel to be even closer to her new son. A couple years after Gabriel was adopted Donna had a late pregnancy miscarriage and the couple lost a daughter she can now hold in heaven.
In 1990 -2000 the couple and their young family lived in Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada before moving back to Texas in 2000.
Donna’s faith and love in Jesus has never wavered or ceased. She has always been active in a local church serving as a nursery worker, in women’s ministry and life groups until bedridden for the past seven years in struggling health. She was attended faithfully by her loving husband and family.
Donna is preceded in death by her father Carl and mother Sarah Blanche Anderton. She is survived by her husband Ray Ferguson, daughter Sarah and son Gabriel Ferguson of Fort Worth Texas and her brother Lew and sister in law Louise of Tyler, Texas. Her family includes many nephews and nieces, cousins and family friends.
