DORCAS “DOT” JUNE THOMPSON

“Mom” as we knew her, will be sorely missed, but always fondly remembered as a truly loving and inspiring gentlewoman to us all. As Proverbs 31:28 reads, “Her children shall rise up and called her blessed.” We do, indeed, rise up and call her blessed as her sweet, nurturing spirit blessed us throughout our lives.

Dorcas June Andrews was born in Electra, Texas on October 26, 1930, along with her twin sister Dean to their parents Homer and Trixie Andrews. “Dot” as she became known soon thereafter, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 18, 2020, at the age of 90. She grew up during the Great Depression, moving around the oil patch and living in various places like Burkburnett, Sunshine Hill and Harold, Texas. While in high school Dot was active in volleyball and softball until she graduated from Electra High School in 1948. She became a switchboard operator for the Electra Telephone Company where she would have the opportunity to occasionally have contact with the love of her life Clyde C. Thompson, Jr. who was away attending college at Texas A&M in College Station. They would get married and begin their family on August 22, 1950.

Dot was a wonderful homemaker who dedicated herself to raising two daughters and a son. In her “spare” time she managed to also perform many other duties. She worked in a Timex watch factory, made custom draperies for a local department store and was the receptionist for a dental surgeon for many years. She also sewed many of her daughters’ dresses while cooking, baking and organizing the home. She always managed to make a house a home as she and Clyde moved several times throughout Texas and Oklahoma while raising their children. Clyde’s job then took them to Norway and Germany where they traveled extensively throughout Europe. Later they returned to the States and finally settled in Flower
Mound, in their beloved state of Texas. They loved the family of First Baptist Church of Grapevine where Dot thoroughly enjoyed playing piano for her Sunday School class. During retirement they traveled to see family, friends and sites throughout the world. Dot passed away peacefully at her home in Flower Mound and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dot was preceded in death by her infant son, Charles Allen Thompson in 1952, her son-in-law Steve Graham in 2017, and her husband of almost 70 years Clyde C. Thompson in April, 2020. She is survived by her twin sister Dean McLaughlin of Austin, Texas. Also, she is survived by her daughter, Rosalyn Dittman of Bixby, Oklahoma; son, Tom Thompson and wife, Marla Thompson of Yuma, Arizona; and daughter, Jana Graham of Paradise Valley, Arizona; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Family visitation will be held at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W. Wall St., Grapevine Texas, on Friday, November 27. A family graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 28, in Electra, Texas.
