Doris M. Poston

May 29, 1932 — August 6, 2023

Doris Mae Humphries Poston was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and
friend. She passed away peacefully with her family around her on August 6,
2023, at the age of 91. Her battle with serious medical issues in recent years
showed her courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile, and we will always
remember her sense of fun.
She was the daughter of Haskell and Lizzie Humphries and was the second oldest
of 10 children, five girls and five boys. She and her siblings grew up on a farm
in North Carolina, and she loved telling stories about those times. She was an
amazing mother to three children, Jerry Poston (wife, Zoe) Susan Morgan
(husband, Bob) and Emily Thomas, five grandchildren, Jennifer (husband,
Russell Simpler) Baileigh (husband, Jason Gilfus), Luke Poston, Michael and
Sarah Thomas, and great-grandmother to Jake, Bryce and Miles Simpler.
She was a single mother for much of her life, and she always provided love and
support for her family and worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for her
children. She was very proud that all three of her kids graduated college and had
great careers.
She ensured that all three of her kids were in church every Sunday, and that they
participated in after school activities and choir. She was also very involved
herself in church work her whole life and particularly loved working with
children. When she attended First Baptist Church Euless, she directed a very
successful apartment ministry for low-income families. Weekly, she would load
up the trunk of her car, set out for the selected apartment complex, and knock on
doors to get children to come out, play games, have refreshments, and learn about
Jesus.
She was always a working mother, and as such, looked for job changes or
promotions that would better provide for the family. She worked in Civil Service
for the U.S. Government for many years, worked at NASA in Huntsville,
Alabama for the maintenance team for the early rocket programs, worked in an
administrative position at IBM in Dallas, and her last position was as office
manager for a major North Texas Dairy Queen franchisee.
She was most happy at big family gatherings and loved to tease and be teased.
Her best saying was “you got me on that one” and then smile broadly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.
The family would like to express thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at
Baylor Grapevine Hospital, the staff at The Lodge at Bear Creek nursing home,
and Freedom Hospice for their kind and loving care during her last days. In lieu
of flowers, you may make a donation to First Baptist Church Keller Mission
