Jean Barfield was released into the arms of a loving God on August 30, 2019. She leftthis world peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends.
Born on March 24, 1926, to parents Charlie and Mamie Stiles, in Longstreet Louisiana, she was the youngest of six children. Jean would become valedictorian at Longstreet High School where she also loved to play basketball.
A chance meeting, John and Jean met when he boarded a later bus than originally planned. They shared a brief courtship and married on March 25, 1948, celebrating 71 years of marriage. Later they welcomed three children and three grandchildren.
Jean went back to school when her sons were in grade school and before her daughter was born. She graduated from Texas Christian University in 1966 with an education major. All three of her grandchildren followed in her footsteps and her alma mater. ‘Go Frogs!’
She balanced church and community activities along with work and family. Jean served as a Sunday school teacher at Shady Oaks Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She also volunteered as a tutor with an adult literacy program at Hurst Public Library.
Jean had her own homebuilding business called Genie Built Homes. And together, John and Jean built a very successful home building and development business in the DFW Metroplex.
In 1976 John and Jean purchased Y-Y Ranch where they enjoyed spending most
weekends. Over the years, they hosted hundreds of family and friends. Jean also enjoyed looking in on her own ranch and pecan orchard,Rockin’ J.
Jean’s wonderful sense of humor and brilliant wit will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish and honor her legacy are many; her devoted husband, John Barfield, who remained by her side in sickness and health. Also are her beloved children, Ronnie Barfield and wife Brenda, Forrest Barfield and wife, Cindy, and Jeanne Horak, and husband Kiley. Grandchildren are Kaytie Christensen and husband Ben, Johnny Barfield, and Layna Steward.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who so lovingly cared for Jean in her last years on this earth, especially, Marybeth Primm, Anita Wood, Mele Cobb, Jennifer Anderson, Jamie Richards, Carolyn Eppinger, and Carol Michuki. Thanks will never be enough, but thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
We mourn for a time, but we cherish and remember her beautiful life forever.
John 14:1-4
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the
place where I am going.”
