Dorothy Strawn Young, 91, passed away on December 30, 2023 following a long battle with heart disease. She was surrounded by her loving family and passed away peacefully.
Dorothy was born in Alva, Oklahoma on December 20, 1932 to Vernon and Mabel Strawn.
She grew up outside of Alva on the family farm. Dorothy attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University where she studied journalism, which ignited her lifelong love for books and the written word.
Dorothy was passionate about antiques and rare books. She and her husband, Don, owned D. Young and Associates in Dallas, Texas, where she specialized in curating private libraries for her clients.
Dorothy is survived by her children; L. Price Young and partner Lana Shaffer, Craig Young and wife Cathy Muse Young, Stephani Young Stone and husband Bill Stone; and her grandchildren, Allison Scott, Lauren Young, Tiffany Windecker, Christina Villareal, Trey Stone, Reece Stone, Bailey Stone, and Catherine Stone. She was also survived by her twelve great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Donald L. Young. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Mabel Strawn and her siblings Vernon Strawn, Mary Trotter, Elaine Gauld, Vivian Young, and Jean Flowers.
The family would like to thank Bre Trail, her caregiver from Lighthouse Care, Samantha Burdette, her hospice nurse, Chaplain Don Anderson, and the entire team at Freedom Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
The service will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local library, The American Heart Association, or Freedom Hospice.
