Doug Guinn was born in Fort Worth, TX to Ken Guinn and Sybil Guinn.
He grew up in North Richland Hills, Texas and attended Mullendore Elementary, North Richland Middle School, and Richland High School. He continued his education at UT Arlington, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering specializing in hydraulics and hydrology.
Over the past 45 years, Doug utilized his skills and knowledge of hydrology to complete many flood studies and water related projects throughout the Metroplex area and the entire state of Texas. Some of his favorite and most significant projects included a 1.5 mile storm drain under Terminal D at DFW Airport, the Grand Parkway in Houston, and a 13 mile section of the Chisholm Trail.
Doug was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Richland Hills, serving as both an assisting minister and as a Stephen Minister/Leader for over 20 years. He attended Cursillo/Lutheran Via de Cristo of North Texas Weekend #7 in September of 1988 and contributed his time and talents through volunteering and serving a three-year term as Lay Director. It was through this movement that he met his wife, Barb.
Music was also an important part of Doug’s life. He began playing the flute in middle school eventually trading it for the guitar during his high school years. Doug frequently contributed his musical talents to the community by playing for youth group meetings, church services, and Via de Cristo events.
Doug is survived by his wife Barb, of 31 years, Richland Hills, his son Joseph (Felicia) of Euless, his brother, Roger Guinn (Bridgeport), sister Suzanne Guinn (Fort Worth), sister-in-law Debra Guinn (Decatur), brother, Steve Bortz (Kaeleen) of Naples, ID, Stepmother Dolores Guinn (Huntingtown, MD), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Services will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7620 Baker Blvd., Richland Hills, Texas on Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 am. The link for the live stream may be found at godshearthumanhands.org.
