Douglas Wayne Miller

February 18, 1945 — November 20, 2021

Douglas Wayne Miller passed away in his Bedford, Texas home on November 20, 2021 and went to be with his Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Douglas was born February 18, 1945 and grew up an Iowa farm boy. After graduating with the Waverly-Shell Rock class of 1963 and while attending Central College in Pella, Iowa, Douglas volunteered to enlist in the Vietnam War so that a man with a family might not be drafted. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Douglas married Brenda Massie in April of 1973 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. One son, Jason, was born to them. They later divorced. After faithfully serving his country as a United States Marine for 22 years, achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, Douglas retired to Texas to be close to his son and family. An incredible grandpa, Douglas could be found at every birthday party, volleyball game, marching band exhibition and choir concert or any other excuse to see his granddaughters.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents, Harrison “Harry” and Dorothy (Natzke) Miller of Shell Rock, IA.
He is survived by his son Jason and wife Amy, his granddaughters Danica, Jessica, Lindsey (Allen), and Sarah (Allen), his great-grandchildren Chandler Allen, Camden Allen and Jason Zgardowski, Jr. all of Bedford, TX and former spouse Brenda Young of Monroe, VA. He is also survived by his sister Parnell Babcock and husband Terry of Novinger, MO, sister Sandra Speidel and husband Phillip of Mt. Pleasant, IA, brother James and wife Shirley of Waverly, IA and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Hurst in Hurst, TX on December 13th at 11am. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held following at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery promptly at 1pm.
