Earl David Dodson
April 17, 1931 – May 12, 2023
Earl David Dodson, 92, of Grapevine, Texas peacefully passed away at his home on May 12, 2023. He was born in Clark County Arkansas on April 17, 1931 to the late Rufus Earl and Della Dodson.
Earl moved to Dallas in 1952. In 1953, he met the love of his life, Myrtle Flournoy and they were married on June 18, 1954 for 67 years, until her passing in 2022. Their family was made complete when their daughter Gina was born.
Earl retired from Nabisco after 33 ½ years as a warehouse supervisor. After retirement, he found that he enjoyed working more than sitting around. He then worked part time for Dealers Auto Auction for 9 years and retired from there.
He loved country music and he, Myrtle and Gina attended many concerts over the years. They also enjoyed going to the Grapevine Opry and the Johnnie High Show. After moving to Grapevine, Earl and Myrtle attended and became members of Foundations Church.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Family was very important to Earl. The eldest of 13 siblings, he took the role of “big brother” very seriously. Earl was an advisor, encourager, confidant, hard worker, good provider and man of integrity. He loved spending time with family. He was a great story teller and as some would say, an “aggravator”. He got a lot of enjoyment from playfully picking on others. Some of his hobbies included, wood working, gardening, and the occasional trip to the casino.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle; his brothers, Pete, Robert, and James Dodson, a sister Daisy Mae Russell, and three infant siblings.
Survivors include his loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Phil Sharp; one brother Johnny Wayne (Alice) of Lodi, CA; four sisters Faye Beedle (Claude), Betty Berry, and JoAnn Keel of Monticello, AR, Nellie Jean Collins (Wayne) of Johnson City, TN, and sisters-in-law Connie Dodson of Monticello, AR and Jeri Dodson of Salem, OR, as well as an abundance of nieces and nephews.
