Eddie Von Asher, a beloved husband, father, brother, and servant of the Lord, passed away in December 2024 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in July 1960, in the small, dusty town of Monahans, Texas, just west of Odessa. Eddie entered the world as a son to J.B. and Maxine Jacoby Asher, a brother to Fred, Ted, and Tammy, and would later become a devoted husband to Carolyn Calhoun and stepfather of Carolyn’s daughter, Erin Elisabeth Ender.
Eddie’s early life was shaped by adventure. The Asher family moved to Lima, Peru, when Eddie was a young boy, as his father worked in the oil fields. There, Eddie grew up in a small American community and school system, surrounded by diverse experiences. After eight years, the family returned to Texas, and Eddie spent his teen years in various cities as the family established roots back in the Lone Star State.
In his younger years, Eddie was a quiet, introspective teen who enjoyed the simpler things in life. He found his passion for technology while working at a local home video store, Videoland, in Hurst, Texas. This interest led him to a career in the booming home electronics industry, where Eddie thrived. He moved on to work with national retailers like Federated and Best Buy, and as the technology of home theater systems advanced, Eddie’s career blossomed.
Eddie’s expertise in home theater installation, smart home technology, and automation systems led to a distinguished career in the consumer electronics industry. Over the span of more than 30 years, he founded two companies, earned multiple industry certifications and became a respected figure within professional organizations, including CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association). His unparalleled knowledge and “old-school” work ethic earned him repeat business and the admiration of both clients and colleagues alike. Eddie’s work made him a pioneer in the field of home theaters and smart home technology, and his legacy lives on in the homes and businesses he helped transform. Ever the patient teacher, Eddie was happy to mentor others, some of whom later became friends of the family.
Eddie married Terry Haile until her sudden passing in 2005.
Through mutual friends, Eddie met Carolyn in August 2006, and after a brief courtship, they married in December. He became an adored “bonus dad” to Carolyn’s daughter, Erin, and was proud to embrace the role of an Aggie fan in honor of Erin’s and Carolyn’s alma mater. He was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.
Eddie’s faith in God was central to his life. He was an active member of a large church in the area, where he served as an usher captain, volunteered with the church’s technical audio/video team, and contributed to social services efforts. His quiet yet steadfast faith was a testament to his character, and he touched many lives through his service and generosity.
His legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful stepdad, a caring brother, and a humble servant of the Lord. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Maxine and his first wife Terry.
He is survived by wife, Carolyn; stepdaughter, Erin; brothers Fred, Ted, and sister Tammy and their spouses and children. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Susan Calhoun; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Alisa Gattis and their children.
A memorial service to honor Eddie’s life will be held at Lucas Funeral Home on Main Street in Keller, TX, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 10 AM CT; a small reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations to your local church or a charity of your choice in Eddie’s memory.
