Edna (Eddie) Nell Burch Black entered heaven on December 31, 2018 at the age of 90 years.
She was born July 24, 1928 to Georgia Winifred Cavender and Harry Louis Burch in Miami, Arizona. Her father passed away when she was only 5 years old, and her mother died when Eddie was 10. She was raised by her grandmother, Edna Hobbs Cavender. She grew up in the Hill Country of Texas in Rio Frio with her sister, Lorraine Burch Baum, her cousin, Edna Hicks Rushing and later moved to El Paso where she met the love of her life, Jack Jennings Black.
Her main role in life, was to be wife to Jack and mother to her children. Later, when grandchildren started arriving, she became the world’s best grandmother.
A rancher’s wife, she was an excellent horsewoman, could shoot a rattlesnake right off of the front porch, then cook a brisket for the cowhands, clean up the mess and rock a baby before sundown. Eddie was a woman of many talents, but love was the greatest one.
Her husband, Jack passed away June 24, 1995, just shy of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. She mourned his loss for many years. In 1996, she moved to Keller to be with her daughters.
Eddie and Jack raised 5 children in the lower valley of El Paso. She is survived by all 5: Winifred Cener (David) FW, Jackie Black-Chaffins (Phillip), Keller, Roy Black (Claire Greenwood), Capitan, NM, Joyce Sanford, Bedford, Iris Finnell (Dugan), Keller.
