Edna P. Prouty

August 15, 1927 — October 26, 2015

Edna and her twin sister, Eleanor, were the youngest of four daughters – born in Whitesboro, Texas, on August 15, 1927, to Charles and Ada Stockman. Living through the Great Depression and World War II were a major influence in shaping Edna’s view of the world. She learned to be frugal with her spending, never one to waste, and expressed her love of family at every opportunity.
Roller skating and dancing were favorite pastimes of her generation. She was very popular on the skate rink with the many enlisted young men from the local Air Base. She loved to dance and would often tell stories of the good times had at various dancing venues, including the time when her husband-to-be proposed marriage.
In 1951, she married the love of her life, Harvey Prouty. Harvey was an exceptional pitcher, playing fast-pitch softball for over 27 years. Every summer the family traveled the State to watch him play ball. He was also an avid golfer, photographer, built and flew radio controlled airplanes, fished, and hunted. Edna was always by his side. She was devoted to him every moment of their 36 year marriage, and grieved for him every day after she lost him in 1987.
Finding herself a widow at much too young an age, she filled her days with hobbies such as bingo, yardwork, reading novels, and watching movies. Well into her final days she would amaze family and friends by retaining the uncanny ability to quote almost word for word every line of her favorite films. In fact, still sharp as a tack at 88, she had vivid memories of the special occasions of her life.
Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her most loved pastimes were babysitting her grandchildren and attending family events. She spent countless hours at sporting events and school activities. One could always count on Grandma to be in the stands as their #1 cheerleader.
Edna was never at a loss for words, and never met a stranger. She made everyone feel comfortable to share their deepest, personal thoughts and stories. Young and old alike found her endearing and she could be hilariously funny, although often times unintentionally.
She was the typical 1950’s stay-at-home mother - born into the “Greatest Generation”. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by her family. We rejoice to think of her now in heaven, in the arms of her loving husband - once again dancing together…through eternity.
Edna is survived by her four children, Tom Prouty, Calvin Prouty, Linda Falling, and Sheri Pettit; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
