Eduardo "Eddie" Arturo Mellado Jr.

October 16, 1958 — September 21, 2022

Eduardo “Eddie” Arturo Mellado Jr., 63, passed Wednesday September 21, 2022 at MD Anderson in Houston, TX due to Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma. He and his wife of 43 years, Jan Mellado, were currently living in North Richland Hills after moving there in 2020 to be near their daughters.

Eddie was born on October 16, 1958 in Mexicali, Mexico, to Eduardo Arturo Mellado Sr. and Agueda Mellado de Limon. Eddie was known for his humor, spirit, infectious laugh, bright smile, and enormous heart. As a child he and his family moved around the world including countries such as El Salvador, Philippines, and Bolivia but always considered Texas home. He graduated from Balboa High school in Panama. He then headed to Mississippi College on a track scholarship. He met Jan Mellado there and they were married June 17, 1979. He began his extensive coaching career at Bedford Junior High and eventually began coaching at North Mesquite High School where he spent most of his coaching career, with 5 years at Oxford High School in Oxford, Mississippi, during that time. Coach Mellado was one of the greatest coaches, mentors, and men to serve the community. He dedicated his life to serving his students and colleagues. He believed it was his mission and calling to teach and coach not just the subjects and sports but the hearts and spirits of those around him. Eddie was easily recognized by his red hair and booming laugh. He spoke truth in love and demonstrated his love of the Lord every day.

Eddie was an incredible father, husband, and friend. He never knew a stranger and he somehow no matter where he was knew someone. He was dedicated, hardworking, and had the most compassionate, kind, and generous spirit. He was always the first in the office and the last to leave and was bound and determined to be the best he could be. Settling was never an option and he constantly found ways to improve and compete with himself. His legacy will live on in all the lives he influenced, encouraged, and directed. He will be forever missed but continues to live on in each of us every day as we strive for the example that he set. Although his life was far too short what he did with his time has far too great a reach to put into words.

He leaves a loving wife of 43 years Jan Mellado, their 2 daughters and their families: Jana Mellado Sayman (41), husband Matt Sayman, grandsons Landon (16) & Cade (14), daughter Sara Mellado Murdock, husband Russ Murdock, and grandchildren: Tori, Ada, Solomon, & Marshall. He is also survived by his parents Ed & Aggie Mellado, siblings, Jimmy Mellado, Gene McIntosh, and Birdie Brazil and their families.

Celebration of Life will be held at Church at the Cross, 3000 William D. Tate Ave. Grapevine, Tx 76051 on October 1, 2022 at 1pm. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Daddy, you fought so much in your life and through cancer, you never lost your faith and showed us every day how to live for the Lord. You finished this race and the best is yet to come. We miss you more than words can express and know we will see you again.
Love,
Your Girls
