Eleanor Mae Averyt passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, at her home in Burleson. A funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 390 FM 731, in Burleson at 2:00pm, Wednesday, March 9, 2022, and a visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Burial will be at DFW National Cemetery at a later date.
She was born January 18, 1937, in Oil City, Pennsylvania to James Wagner McVeagh and Dorothy Doris Fink at Oil City Hospital.
Eleanor grew up in Oil City and graduated from Oil City High School in 1954. After high school, she attended stenographer school in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She worked at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. where she was secretary for the Air Force supporting 9 Full Bird Cornels. Later she worked at General Dynamics as a Secretary and went on to court reporting freelance for Bankruptcy Court. She retired as a court reporter for Johnson County 249th district Court after 8 years of service. She played the piano and organ at church.
She married Charles Elmer Averyt on December 19,1963, and they were happily married for 37 years. Charles was laid to rest in November of 2000.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her father, James Wagner McVeagh; mother, Dorothy Doris Fink; husband, Charles Averyt; and sister, Sally.
Eleanor is survived by her two sons, Jim Averyt living in North Richland Hills and Charlie Averyt from Burleson; grandchildren, Jordan Averyt who lives with his father, Jim in North Richland Hills, Ashley, Toby, Jeremy; and 5 great-grandchildren.
