Elizabeth "Libby" Gardner

April 14, 1951 — April 28, 2016

Elizabeth Strain Gardner, 65, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016. A Memorial Visitation will be held Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 1-3 pm at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Rd. Hurst, TX.
Libby was born and raised in Illinois and Minnesota. She moved to Houston Texas, in high school, with her parents, Paul and Jeanne Strain. She attended the University of Houston and Drake University in Des Moines Iowa, where she majored in English. Her career began in Houston ISD as a junior high teacher. She also taught at Bryan High School. Libby received both her Master's degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree at Texas A&M University, majoring in Curriculum and Instruction with Educational Administration, She worked at Texas A&M as a lecturer and assistant director at the Center for Teaching Excellence. It was this background and true passion for education that lead her to Conroe ISD as both a junior high and high school principal at Knox Jr. High, Oak Ridge High School and McCullough High School. She then was honored to be the Associate Superintendent for Secondary Schools and then Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Conroe ISD. She finished her life-long passion for learning as Superintendent of schools for Pflugerville ISD. Libby retired in 2004, after impacting people's lives for 32 years.
Libby's passion for life was learning, serving others and truly striving to make a difference in the lives of each person she knew. She loved her children and grandchildren. She also loved history, gardening, traveling, music and her career. Her love for animals was limitless. The joy she brought others until the day she left this Earth, was truly indescribable. She has left an impact on so many lives and her legacy will live on forever as she rejoices in Heaven with those she loved.
Libby is survived by her children, Jessica Sandoval and husband Mick of North Richland Hills, Katy Maurer and husband Tony of Keller and Clayton Gardner and girlfriend Kaitlyn Miller of College Station; grandchildren Ariel, Riley, Tyler, Natalie, Reece and Zoe.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jeanne Strain.
