Ellen Louise Carleton, 85, of Flower Mound, TX passed away on October 8, 2022. She was born November 21, 1936 in St Louis, MO to Art and Mina Broyles.
Louise was a retired nurse. She was married for 63 years to the love of her life, Stephen Carleton. Louise and Steve met in college at Oklahoma Baptist University where she earned her nursing degree. They spent most of their married life in Riverside, California raising a family.
Louise’s professional career was varied and full. Her calling as a health care worker lead her to teach nursing, run a college health center and eventually specialize in neonatal intensive care nursing for many years. Towards the end of her professional career Louise ran a fetal alcohol awareness program for the state of Oklahoma and worked with a team to design a special doll that could be used in seminars to show the physical affects alcohol can have on babies.
Just a few of her talents included hosting elegant dinners for large groups in her role as wife to a college administrator (for which she would cook all the incredible food), amazing sewing skills which she put to good use making everything from prom dresses to draperies for her daughters, and a keen eye for antiques which she and her husband Steve would find on trips and bring home.
Her daughters will always remember the elegance she brought to every family holiday. Always setting the table with china, crystal and silver to make the celebration more special.
Survivors: Husband Steve Carleton; Daughters, Kimela Burt and her husband Mark, Becky Carleton; granddaughters, Kaitlin Burt and Hanna Burt.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louise's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
