Ellis Nick Abdo Iii M.D.

Ellis Nick Abdo, III, MD was born May 1, 1935 in Leland, Mississippi. Surrounded by family, he departed this life on April 11, 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Abdo was a respected family physician in Fort Worth for fifty years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family and a mentor, teacher, doctor, and friend to many more.

Dr. Abdo grew up in Greenville, Mississippi where he graduated Valedictorian of his high school class and member of The National Honor Society in 1953. He obtained his BA in Psychology with Distinction from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford, MS in 1957. After college, he spent a year studying at Albert Ludwig University in Frieberg, Germany as a German academic exchange scholarship student. He received his Medical Degree in 1962 from University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson, MS and came to Fort Worth, Texas to complete his Family Practice Internship and Residency at John Peter Smith Hospital. During this time, he got his pilot's license and co-owned a plane. He courted his future wife, Betty Anne Crocker of Jackson, flying back and forth between Texas and Mississippi. Nick and Betty married on April 25, 1964 and Betty joined Nick in Fort Worth. They were married for almost 60 years and raised 4 boys. Prior to setting up his practice, Dr. Abdo attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary for two years in preparation for overseas missions if so called. He became a member of University Baptist Church (UBC) in Fort Worth in 1962. He served as a Major in the Air-force Reserves at Carswell Air Force Base during the mid-1960’s. Dr. Abdo was ordained as a Deacon at UBC in 1974. While attending UBC, he served on many committees, sang in the choir, and at various times was a Bible teacher, mentor, and leader. Dr. Abdo retired from Family Practice in 2012, having practiced medicine in the Fort Worth area for fifty years.

Dr. Abdo was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis Nick Abdo, Jr. and Christine Aultman Abdo of Greenville, Mississippi, Fraternal grandparents Ellis Nick Abdo, Sr. and Sada Abdonour Abdo originally from Syria, Maternal grandparents Henry Alexander Aultman and Annie Rose Peyton Aultman all of Leland, Mississippi.

Dr. Abdo is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Betty Crocker Abdo, sons Ellis Nick Abdo, IV and wife Teresa of North Richland Hills, TX; Larry Dale Abdo and wife Vonda of Steelville, Missouri; Mark Lester Abdo and wife Joan of Lakeway, TX; Christopher Michael Abdo and wife Elena of Fort Worth, TX; 9 grandchildren and their spouses; 9 great grandchildren; sister Dorothy Wheeler, of Wylie, TX; brothers-in-law Burlon Crocker of Ethel, Mississippi; George Thomas and wife Glenda of Meridian, Mississippi; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
