Emabel Baker Fielder

April 8, 1928 — May 9, 2022

Emabel Baker Fielder passed away on Monday, May 9, at Harris Methodist Hospital HEB.
She was born on April 8, 1928 in Anson, Texas, to Selma Brown Baker and Roy Lee Baker, Sr. She graduated from Anson High School in 1945. She went on to receive her BS degree from Texas Tech. Ema married Bruce “Mac” Fielder on March 23, 1951, and they shared 61 years together. They have three children – Steve, Jack and Jan – all born in Lubbock.
The family moved several times. As a result, Ema had a variety of jobs. In Lubbock, she worked in the state and county tax collector’s office. In Amarillo, she was a preschool teacher. In Muskogee, Oklahoma, she taught first grade for a few years. In Georgetown, Texas, she worked the front desk at the newspaper office and as a secretary at Southwestern University. Finally, she worked for many years at the Travis County Appraisal District where she retired.
Ema was very interested in genealogy, and she spent many hours researching ancestors in libraries, court houses and cemeteries. She compiled several booklets of her research and distributed them to family members so that their ancestors would be remembered. Also, she was Presbyterian – following the Baker family ancestors all the way back to Scotland.
Ema was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Fielder; her brother, Roy L. Baker Jr.; her only sister, Mary Jane Ellis; and brother-in-law, Dick Ellis.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Fielder and wife, Heesoo and Jack Fielder and wife, Ann and daughter Jan Syers and husband “Doc” Syers. She is also survived by grandchildren: Ryan, Adrienne, Chris, Maralee, Jay and Annie – as well as great grandson, Theo. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Glenn Baker and wife, Lene, and sister-in-law, Nell Baker.
