Eugene Ray Martell

August 16, 1940 — October 29, 2015

Eugene Martell, 75, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, Oct. 29, 2015. He went home surrounded by his family.
Service: Catholic Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Richland Hills. Interment Bourland Cemetery, Keller. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst.
Gene was born and spent the first half of his life in Ohio. He spent the last half of his life in Texas.
As a young man, Gene was very active in St. Helen's Catholic Church and spent a great deal of time in his formative years with his friend and mentor, Father Moran. As many in his generation Gene joined the Army Reserve in 1962 and served in the logistics branch out of the Richmond Road Armory on until 1968. In his midlife Gene was active in the community in Ohio with the Boy Scouts as Scout master of Troop 101. After moving to Texas, Gene was very active in Lions Club and Knights of Columbus at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.
Gene worked for 15 years at CFL and 15 years at the city of Colleyville. He always kept in touch with this old friends in his retirement years with annual summer trips to Ohio and Vermont to escape the Texas summers. He spent the other nine months in Texas to escape the memory of the winter of 1977. Hobbies included boating and fishing and camping with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and eldest brother.
Survivors: He leaves behind his wife, Janice, of 49 years; three sons; his only daughter; and 11 grandchildren whom he adored.
