Eva Maye Oeffler, 89, passed away Sunday, October 7th, 2018.
Funeral: 4:00 PM Thursday at Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Bedford. Interment will be held at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala, Florida. Visitation: 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst.
Eva Maye was born at home on the family’s farm in Sparr, Florida on May 25, 1929. Her early years were consumed with working on the farm, playing with cousins and going to school and church.
Eva Maye began her college days at FSU, but transferred to Stetson University where she met Wayne Oeffler. They were married in May of 1952. She followed Wayne to Texas while he attended Southwestern Theological Seminary, and then returned to minister together in Baptist churches in Florida. Eva Maye and Wayne were married 57 years when he died in 2009.
She was a respected high school English teacher. Her two favorite church activities were singing in the choir and preparing beautiful floral arrangements for church services.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Community Hospice and Hayley Williky for their loving care of Eva Maye.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Wynette and Jim Griffin, granddaughter, Liz Griffin and her two great grandsons, James and Zane Griffin.
