Evelyn Ruth Dowell, affectionately known as "Granny" to her loved ones, peacefully passed away on June 4, 2024, at the age of 92, at Huguley Hospital in Burleson. She was born on May 14, 1932, at her grandparents' home and grew up in Floydada, Texas before settling in Fort Worth upon her marriage.
Evelyn led a fulfilling life as a dedicated homemaker and later found joy working at Tandy Leather until her retirement. Her interests included reading and spending time outdoors, particularly mowing the lawn on her beloved riding mower. She attended the Baptist Church, where she enthusiastically participated in the Hospitality Committee and other church activities.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Vicki Kay Zimmer and Kathy Lynn Dees, along with her grandchildren Renee Gunn, Mark Zimmer II, Matthew Dees, and Jason Dees and wife Bernadette. Evelyn is also survived by her great-grandchildren Morgan Haddock and husband Cameron, Rylee Zimmer, Kaylee Dees, Kendall Zimmer, Mylie Dees, Brazos Zimmer, Gunner Zimmer, Mariah Escalante and Mya Sanchez, and great-great-grandchildren Carter Haddock and Presley Haddock. Her family brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Dowell, her parents, and beloved son-in-law, David Dees.
A Graveside Service to honor and celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held at Laurel Land Memorial Park on June 10, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Prior to the service, a public viewing will take place at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home-Chapel at 10:00 am on the same day. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Dementia Society of America.
