Evelyn Florence Downs, affectionately known as Maw Maw, went on to be with the Lord on March 3, 2024, in Grapevine, Texas surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn was born on June 21, 1930, in Troup, Texas. She attended Carlisle High School and went on to earn a Business Degree from Tyler Business School. She retired as Office Manager of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Commission in Hobbs, N.M.
On November 3, 1948, Evelyn married Ray B. Downs at her parent’s house in the Community of Henry’s Chapel. At the time of her passing, she was a very active member of First United Methodist Church, Colleyville, Texas, including the UMW. She also spent many hours volunteering at GRACE, Grapevine Visitor Center and Meals on Wheels. She loved spending time with her friends and family. She served the Lord with gladness.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Ray Downs, her son David Downs, her father Marion Florence her mother Jewette Barron Florence, siblings Floy Florence Dees, Sarah Florence Helpinstill, Barron Florence, and M.J. Florence.
She is survived by her daughter Pat Downs Koonce, of Grapevine, Tx.; daughter in law June Downs Williams; grandchildren, Aaron Koonce, Kim Downs, Alissa Koonce Taylor, and Ross Downs; and great grandchildren Lucas Koonce, Cooper Koonce, Everly Claire Taylor, and Emma Rae Downs; all who live in the DFW area.
A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church Colleyville on Friday, March 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. A private graveside service will be held at Henry’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Troup, TX. at 3:00 P.M. On Saturday March 10, 2024.
