Evelyn Ida Lewis

July 18, 1934 — May 22, 2023

With great sorrow, the family of Evelyn Lewis announce the passing of our strong, brave, loving Mother, Memaw, Meme, Grandmother, Mother-in-Law and friend. On May 22, 2023, Evelyn Lewis peacefully went to her heavenly home. She blessed us with 88 years of her life.
Evelyn was the oldest daughter of Thomas and Hilda Dee of Irondale, Missouri. They had a large family consisting of eighteen children. Evelyn provided for the care of many of her younger siblings.
Evelyn married John Robert Dane of Leadwood, Missouri. They went on to have 3 children, Robert Dane, Diana Dane Luna, and Pamela Dane Koch. Evelyn was a housewife for many years and took pride in raising her children and caring for her home. She was widowed at a very young age.
Evelyn moved from Missouri to Texas. She married James Kenneth Lewis. She was employed by Frito Lay until her retirement.
Evelyn loved being outdoors. You would commonly find her outside mowing her yard. She loved gardening and took pride in her home of 48 years.
She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and would spend weeks getting her home decorated for the holidays. She loved giving out candy to the children in her neighborhood on Halloween. Evelyn was a wonderful cook. She loved making large meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was known for her holiday fudge.
She loved animals. She was especially fond of her canine companions. They are all on a long walk with her now. Her loving companion of 18 years, Buddy, a Yorkshire Terrier, is leading the pack.
Evelyn also loved sports. She played volleyball in high school and was always up to a game during family reunions. She was a Dallas Cowboy fan and a devoted fan of Tom Landry. She also loved watching basketball. You knew not to call early in the morning because she would have been up late watching a game. She knew every player’s name.
She was a country music fan. There seldom was a day that music was not playing within her home.
Her daughters prayed for strength and wisdom to give her the best care possible. She spent her final days happy and loved. The sound of her voice and laughter will be sorely missed. The opportunity to call her for advice or simply to talk about the weather creates a void no one will ever fill. Please know Mom how much you were loved.
Evelyn was predeceased by her father Thomas Dee, mother Hilda Dee, John Dane, and James Lewis.
She is survived by her two daughters and one son and their spouses. She leaves behind twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
