Evi Rey

September 29, 1950 — January 9, 2025

Evi Monika Rey, born on September 29, 1950, in Germany. She was a devoted wife to her husband Georg, of 52 years before he passed.

Evi poured her heart and soul into nurturing her children and grandchildren, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family. It was ever so evident when her husbands career took them from Germany to Texas in December of 1990. Regardless of the big distance to their home, she always made sure that the whole family stayed connected in every way possible.

It didn't matter where they were as long as the family was together - "home is where the heart is." Her life was a testament to love, sacrifice, and unwavering support for her family.

She is survived by her cherished son, Philipp, and his wife, Danielle, along with her adored grandsons, Mathias and Theodore Rey. Evi is also survived by her beloved daughter, Julia, and her husband John Higgins and her grand-dog Jaxx.

She made sure Julia and Philipp always had breakfast and warm tea before their early morning ice-skating practices, didn't matter if it meant she had to get up at 4 or 4:30am. Or risking heat stroke one incredibly hot summer sleeping in their van overnight together in Fair Park for an early morning practice.

She always loved to travel, having worked for Club Med in her younger years, exploring the Congo and Morocco. They drove from Munich to Morocco in their BMW with a tent and a sack of potato's in the trunk. Or the time she and Georg went to Los Roques and were dropped off at a small Island with nothing but an umbrella and a cooler-always ready for an adventure.

Evi passed down her love for James Bond and the A-Team along with her passion for reading to her children, often reading more than one book at a time. It would be a normal occurrence to find books in various stages scattered around the house.

She never shied away from hard work - whether in the home, outside in the garden or at the company she built with her husband. There she took on the endearing nickname "the bean counter" as she was in charge of the finances - "look out, here comes the bean counter." Her employees quickly became part of her family. Her grand-dog Jaxx knew that his spot was below her desk to get his morning biscuits once she had her coffee. Nothing could get between him and his Oma.

Regardless of anything else happening, her family was her be all, end all. She lived for family gatherings. Whether casual weekend coffee and cake or filet fondue, as long as the family was together. Evi cherished her morning hugs from her grandsons Mathias and Teddy before they ran off to catch the bus to school. They were her most prized possession. She was a shining example of what a dedicated wife, mom and Oma encompasses.

Evi enjoyed anything family. Shopping at Home on Bishop, with her daughter Julia and Husband Georg, and later just with Julia remembering the times with Georg. Cody, one of the owners, running across the street to get a pair of pants quickly hemmed for her short five foot even frame.

Her legacy will live on through the love and memories she created with her family. She passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her most. Her laughter and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
