Finis Eugene Curtis (Gene) passed away peacefully at home May 1, 2016. He was born September 22, 1933, in the small town of Estelline, Texas, to Finis Curtis and Lena Marcum Curtis. He attended public schools in Willow, Oklahoma, and Vernon, Texas, as well as a year of college at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Gene was a gentle man, devoted to and proud of his family, who he always put before himself. He and his wife June who he adored were ideally matched in personality and interests. Their marriage of 53 years continues to be an inspiration to his children. Gene was a well-known and liked personality in Mesquite, serving as a friendly and talkative postman for 30 years. In his spare time he enjoyed repairing antique clocks, playing dominos, researching his family tree, and watching old westerns.
June survives him, as well as his two sisters, Naomi Campbell (Mesquite, Tx) and Donna Ivy (Crosby, Tx). Two children, Christy Reynolds (Mesquite) and Clayton Curtis (New York City), two grandchildren, Wesley (Princeton, Tx) and Bradley Reynolds (Mesquite), a son-in-law, John Reynolds (Mesquite), a daughter-in-law, Galit Bitton-Curtis (New York City), a grand-daughter-in-law, Hope Wilson (Princeton, Tx), and a great-grandson, Ryan Reynolds (Princeton, Tx), also survive and carry on his memory.
SERVICE: The Lucas Funeral Home on 700 W. Wall St. in Grapevine, Texas, will host a visitation on Thursday, May 5th from 6:00-8:00pm. A graveside service will be held at the Grapevine Cemetery, 901 N. Dooley St. in Grapevine, on Friday, May 6th at 2:00pm. Friends and family are welcome.
