With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Frank "Buzz" Binford Cardinal on December 24, 2024, at the
age of 78, following a brave battle with heart disease. After surviving a massive heart attack in 2003 and
undergoing a quintuple bypass, his family is deeply grateful for the 21 extra years they were blessed to share
with him. Buzz passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born in San Diego, California, on January 28, 1946, Buzz was the son of the late Binford Duff Cardinal and
Lillian Ann (Chodur), both career Marines. He graduated from Beaufort High School in South Carolina in 1963
and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from Newberry College in 1968. It was at Newberry College
that Buzz met his college sweetheart, Joyce “Joy” Lee Harrell, and they were married for 58 wonderful years.
Buzz’s career was one of dedication and success. He worked for Kmart Corporation from 1968 to 2001, starting
as a Junior Executive Trainee and eventually rising to the position of Vice President. After retiring for a brief
period, Buzz returned to the retail industry, which allowed him to travel the world. His work took him and Joy
across the country and around the globe, and by the time they settled back in Keller, Texas, he had lived in over
30 different residences. Throughout it all, Buzz was committed to his family, raising three daughters and
making each place they called home special.
Buzz had a deep love for music, his cherished Georgia cabin, and his loyal dog, Malone. Above all, his life was
defined by his unwavering devotion to his family. His greatest joys were his wife, three daughters,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was always there for his loved ones, treasuring every moment spent
together. Buzz will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his infectious sense of humor.
Buzz is survived by his beloved wife, Joy, his daughters Stacey (Jason Carter), Paige (Ron Wolk), and Christy
Rowsey, and his 9 grandchildren: Mackenzie (John Vick), Megan Rowsey, Chandler Carter (Marlayna),
Madison Rowsey (Drew Bolin), Carson Carter (Kyndal), Sydney Wolk, Noah Rowsey (Kaela), Gibson Wolk,
and Porter Wolk. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Masen Rowsey, Frankie and Johnny Vick,
Maggie Carter, and Ruth Joy Rowsey.
Buzz is further survived by his sister Sheri LePore, her children Wendi (Ced Nafziger), Craig Hammer (Joann),
and Sheridon (TJ Simington), his sister-in-law Judy (Jimmy Williams), brother-in-law Bobby Harrell, nieces
Heather (Brandon Bowers), Holly Lewis, Lindsey (Greg Hartsfield), and their families.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 28, 2025, at Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Colleyville,
Texas, at 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
