Fred Lawrence Washa, age 86, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021. He was born on January 26, 1935 to Fred H. Washa and Bessie C. (Rynda) Washa. Fred graduated from Montgomery High School. After high school, Fred served in the United States Air Force and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
After the Air Force, Fred returned to Montgomery and owned Washa’s Department Store prior to moving to Texas in 1982. Once in Texas, Fred worked in real estate for a few years and then Southern Union Gas Company until he retired in 2012. He was a joy to all and his co-workers loved luncheons at work because Fred always brought his “Fred Bars.” At the time of his death, Fred was an active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in North Richland Hills.
Fred married Eunice Bernice Oldenburg on July 8, 1962 and they were married for 58 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; his parents; and his brothers, Roy Sr. and Frank (Bingo).
He is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Larry) Chapman and Stacy (James) Gray; his granddaughters Lillian and Kendall Chapman; his grandsons Nicholas and Ryan (Holly) Chapman; and his great-granddaughters Layla and Rylee; his sister-in-law Julie Washa; his brother-in-law Delbert (Suzanne) Oldenburg; his sister-in-law Marian (Sheldon) Sindelar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in late June 2021 at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery, Minnesota. For details on the exact date and time, please email Jennifer at
