G. Maxine Harvey was born on August 24th, 1928, in Mount Judea, Arkansas, to parents, Ralph and Euna (Hefley) Kent. Maxine married Garvin Criner on October 3rd, 1946, lived in Mount Judea, and had two children, Carolyn Hodge and Judy Wilson. She later married Maurice (Smitty) Smith on March 12th, 1960, and her real-life adventure began. Because Smitty was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Maxine was living in Kansas, they had to get married over the phone, with proxy “stand-in’s” on both ends of the line. She later boarded a plane and headed to Okinawa with Carolyn and Judy in tow, and united with Smitty and his three children, Jonnie, Sandra, and Steve to become a family of seven. Maxine and Smitty were married for 25 years until Smitty passed away on October 18th, 1985. Maxine later found love and companionship with Bob Harvey and they were married on June 6th, 2003.
Maxine spent most of her working life as a bank teller at Northeast National Bank in Richland Hills and First State Bank in Bedford, Texas. She also worked as a Mary Kay consultant and taught school for a year in her small town after completing some college.
Maxine enjoyed playing golf, bowling, riding in Smitty’s airplane, dancing, traveling with friends and family, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also had a lot of fun playing jokes on her OU family rivals up North.
Maxine was very close with her sister, Louise Taylor-Reidy, who passed on February 4th, 2016. She is survived by her children, Jonnie Worth and husband Curtis of Saginaw, Texas, Carolyn Hodge of Grapevine, Texas, Sandra Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, and Judy Wilson and husband Virgil of Euless, Texas; along with her seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
The family will be receiving friends and family at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas.
