Gary Leon Chappell

April 15, 1944 — January 4, 2021

On Monday, January 4, 2021 Gary Leon Chappell of Grapevine, Tx passed away after a long battle surviving from a major stroke he suffered in 2009.

Gary was born in Denison Texas on April 15, 1944. He grew up in the Denison area and after graduating Denison High School, he went on to serve in the US Army National Guard. In1970 he completed the academy for the Texas State Trooper program and served as a Texas State Highway Patrolman for six years. Throughout the rest of his life Gary was fortunate enough to manage several successful businesses; most notably he owned and operated a barbecue restaurant and a very successful pizza restaurant for nearly 20 years. He found his happiness in cooking and serving the people in his community, however his true passion in life was his family.

Gary is survived by his wife of 44 years Sue Chappell of Grapevine, his son Scott and wife Tami of Little Elm Texas, his daughter Brandy Chappell Herbison and husband Alex of Frisco, Texas and his brother Bill Cobb of Houston Texas. He also survived by 5 grandchildren (Carter, Taylor, Justin, Hailey and Lindsay) and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Vinnie Mae Erwin Cobb and husband DL Cobb, his father JC Chappell and wife Charlene Chappell, and his sister-in-law Janyce Cobb.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations we made in Gary’s honor to the American Heart Association.
