Gary "Rooster" Cogburn

March 25, 1954 — June 14, 2020

Gary “Rooster” Cogburn, age 66 of San Antonio, left this earth peacefully on June 14, 2020 at 2:00 a.m. Gary was surrounded by his loving family and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Born in Ft Worth, Texas on March 25, 1954. He was born of parents Robert and Joan Cogburn. Gary served in the U.S. Air Force from January 1976 to November 1996 as a dental technician during the Persian Gulf War. He was stationed in Ft Worth, Tx, Okinawa, Japan, Rome, New York, and San Antonio, Tx. Gary served 20 years and received an Honorable Discharge on November 30, 1996.

Gary is survived by his wife Joanne, daughters Misty, Cassandra, Krystle, and sons, Austyn, Alexis, and Kodi; his grandchildren Dylan, Emilio, Suryn, Enzo and Vanessa; his sister, Paula and his mother Joan. He is preceded in death by his father Robert and his brother Billy.

Gary lived his life with a smile on his face. He was the life of the party and you always knew when he was in a room. He loved to tell jokes (no matter how corny or inappropriate), but that is what we loved about him. He always knew how to put a smile on your face and he never met a stranger. His stories were always entertaining and you knew when he liked you if he gave you some ridiculous nickname. His favorite game was Scrabble and he was irritatingly great at it! His expansive presence while living was always felt, and missed all the more with his passing.

It was not Gary’s wish to have a memorial service, but rather have you share your stories either about him or with him and remember him that way. Please feel free to share yours stories with us to keep his memories alive!
