Gary Thomas Gott
Gary Thomas Gott, age 74, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2024, surrounded by his family. Gary was born to Andrew and Eleanor Gott on February 5, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois. He spent his childhood years in Northlake, Illinois, a small suburban town located in Cook County, just outside the city of Chicago. On April 19th, 1968, he met his high school sweetheart, Francine, at West Leyden High School. In 1968, Gary was hired at Delta Airlines and began a career that would span almost four decades. He first worked there until 1969, when he joined the Air Force. Gary and Francine were married on May 1st, 1971. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska, where Gary was stationed until he completed his service with the Air Force in 1973. They returned to Chicago, where he resumed working for Delta Airlines and was also a Volunteer Fireman and Paramedic for the Streamwood Fire Department. Gary and Francine raised their two sons, Matthew and Jeffery, in Chicago until they moved to Grapevine, Texas in 1986.
Gary spent 37 years working for Delta, and his colleagues there were like family to him. Although they dispersed across the world, their bond remained strong. After retiring from Delta in 2005, Gary started his own handyman business and worked for the next decade. He was known for his incredible skills and ability to build and repair anything. In his free time, Gary enjoyed fishing, traveling, watching Chicago Bears games, and attending high school football games.
He adored the children whom he affectionately referred to as his "crew," including Grace, Graham, Keri, Lily, Peyton, Preslie, Miles, Finn, Maggie, and Henry.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Sharon; and his brother Roy. Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years, Francine (nee Tornabene); his sons Matthew and Jeffery (Katy); his grandchildren Gracie and Graham; and his brother Daniel (Rita)
