Gary Lynn Meador, 74, passed away July 15, 2022 at Hospice House at Huguley, in Fort Worth. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home, 518 SW Johnson Ave., in Burleson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home with burial to follow at Green Acres Memorial Park in Cleburne.
He was born August 19, 1947, in Houston, to Franklin Eugene and Janie Boles Meador. Gary graduated from Burleson High School in 1967. Gary married Joyce Doggett on June 22, 1968, and they were happily married for 54 years.
Gary got drafted during the Vietnam Conflict, and left to serve his country on January 28, 1969. He served for 15 years before he was medically discharged in 1984. He served 3 tours of duty in Germany, and worked in the Pershing Missile System during the Cold War.
After he retired from the Army, he used his GI Bill to finish college at Cameron University, in Lawton, Oklahoma. In 1988, he graduated, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor’s degree in sociology and he minored in community service. He worked as a mental health aide in group homes, ombudsman in nursing homes, and as a human services counselor in a homeless shelter. He also worked at Goodwill Industries as a work activities supervisor. Gary worked for MHMR at the state school in Fort Worth as a QMRP, or a case worker, prior to retirement.
Gary enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he loved history, doing family genealogy with computer searches, metal detecting, and coin collecting. He did reenactments with the Sons of the Confederacy and Terry Texas Rangers. He also did reenactments with the gun fighters during Founder’s Day in Burleson. He was known as the “watcher” on Lynne Lane, and wanted to keep all the neighbors safe. He was always on the lookout for lost animals that needed help. “Love your neighbors the same as you love yourself.” Mark 12:31.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Janie Meador and sister, Lanetta Bridschge.
Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Meador; son, Kenneth Meador; family pet, Isabella Meador; nephews, Trey and Shane Doggett, and Randall Roberts; nieces, Lori Ann Soto, Sheila Harrison, Michelle Martin, Melissa Willson, Marie Johnson, and Meredith Bridschge.
