Gene B. McCallister passed away on November 1, 2018.
Memorial Service: 3:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2018 at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst.
Gene was born May 22, 1936 in Gatesville, Texas to Oce and Rosa Lee (Baker) McCallister. Beloved only child, Gene attended UT at Austin and Baylor University in Waco before enlisting with the US Air Force in 1958.
On a blind date on New Years Day, 1970, he met his wife of 48 years, Iris Armenta Patton, whom he married in April of that year. He enjoyed traveling with Micki well into middle age, but in lieu of a mid-life crisis, he and his bride gave parenting a try. He approached this new role with the same diligence and devotion he applied to his professional life, his yard and his automobiles.
He was a kind soul, hardly ever meeting a stranger, especially if they followed the Dallas Cowboys. His compassion for others led to volunteer work at HEB hospital, where he was known and loved for his cheerful personality and his pecan brittle.
Gene Baker McCallister, 82, passed at his home in Euless, Texas on November 1, 2018, surrounded by his immediate family. He is survived by his loving wife Micki, daughter Briland Driver and her husband Richard, daughter Jamee Fields and her husband Brad; 2 grandchildren, Gillian and Hannah; brother in law Wesley J Patton; sisters in law Norene Gion and Audrey Seal, as well as extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gene’s honor to The Humane Society of North Texas, at
