Georgie always greeted you with a smile, a gentle soul, a friend to all
June 25, 1930- November 15-2018
George Bogordos was first generation American born and raised in the Greek area of Gary, IN on 11th Avenue to parents Athanasios and Golfo Bogordos. He remained a proud Froebel High School Blue Devil where he met many lifelong friends some who were immortalized in his entertaining stories about the good old days. He served in the army as a corporal in Austria during the Korean War (1951-53). After returning to Gary, he worked for Blaw-Knox.
George met his wife Kasandra at SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Merrillville, IN where he remained an active member in the church and served in every office on the Parish Council for over 30 years. George and Kasandra raised 3 children Gail (Kerry) Lutz, John (Jane) Bogordos, and Tina (Mike) Molhoek at their home in Crown Point and was honored to be Nouno (godfather) to 8.
A natural with people, George worked and served the community as a manager at both Elmar’s and The Patio restaurants. He helped organize many special events in northwest Indiana from weddings and anniversaries to local benefits, one of his favorites being The Gary Old Timers Athletic Association. George, a former athlete, devoted White Sox and NWI basketball fan, and Little League Coach, was competitive and loved playing against his nephews, children, and grandchildren especially miniature golf (no giveaways).
In 2001 George and Kasandra retired, moved to Fort Worth, Texas and joined St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox church of Euless, TX. Nothing could keep George away from greeting people - he volunteered at his grandchildren’s elementary school and at the Ball Park in Arlington home of his new favorite team, the Texas Rangers.
He worked for over 10 years as a Greeter at Walmart where he received numerous area awards for his outstanding job.
His favorite job was as Papou (grandfather) to his 6 grandchildren to whom he passed on his love of movies, music, miniature golf, Greek coffee, defensive driving, and word puzzles. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and lived with the disease for 6 years.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, sister and brother-in-law, Magdalene (William) Ferlis, daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Kerry Lutz, and nephew, Nick Ferlis.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kasandra (Christ) Bogordos, son John (Jane) Bogordos, daughter, Tina (Mike) Molhoek, nephew Tom (Valerie) Ferlis, and grandchildren, Lauren (Cody) Creger, Daniel Lutz, Magdalene Molhoek, John Molhoek, Emily Bogordos, and Abigail Molhoek
